BriefLasso vs Google Forms + Google Drive
Last updated · by Cody Johnston
Should you use Google Forms or a tool like BriefLasso to collect website content?
Google Forms with Google Drive is free and flexible and fine for a few projects a year. Its limits are that file uploads require clients to sign in to Google and there are no built-in reminders or per-project progress. BriefLasso adds those for US$15 a month.
A Google Form plus a shared Drive folder is free and familiar, and for some projects it is all you need. Here is where it works and where it gets painful.
| BriefLasso | Google Forms + Drive | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | From US$15/mo | Free with a Google account (Workspace plans from about US$7/user/mo for business email and more storage) |
| Client file uploads | Yes, no client account needed | Form file-upload questions require respondents to sign in to a Google account; files go to the form owner's Drive |
| Save progress and come back | Yes, every item saves as they go | Limited; partial responses are not a dependable "come back later" workflow for clients |
| Automatic reminders | Day 3, 7 and 14, stop when done | Not built in; you send them yourself or add an add-on/script |
| Per-project progress / status page | Yes | No; you check the responses sheet and folder |
| Flexibility | Website-focused templates | Very flexible; any questions, any workflow |
